Independence Day
Action, Sci Fi August 6th, 2007
Independence Day came out before I had acquired a love of summer blockbusters so it took me a while to see it. I was watching on Sunday and I was trying to remember if it followed the Michael Bay formula. I had missed the beginning so I searched for the script online. It didn’t have the formula, but then I realized it had been directed by Roland Emmerich and not Michael Bay. Anyway, I read the ending along with the script and I found this gem in the script after Will Smith (Steve) and Jeff Goldblum save the world and are reunited with their ladies:
JASMINE You scared the hell out of me. STEVE Yeah, but what an entrance! JASMINE Dick-weed. STEVE Butt-munch.
Surprisingly, they didn’t actually go with this ending. Instead there were a lot of handshakes and hugs. Sometimes it is funny to see what the actual script said.
Rotten tomatoes rating: 66% (Imagine how low it would be with the original dialog)

I remember when i sat down to watch this and I said to myself, “I’m going to watch the first 20 minutes and then do something else.” Don’t try it. It doesn’t work.
