The Jane Austen Book Club
Girl Movies, Romance January 5th, 2009I watched The Jane Austen Book Club with my mom, brother and sister-in-law over the holidays. I put up a good front against the cuteness of it all, but I did end up ordering Sense and Sensibility from my book swap anyway. At the end of the movie, the one male character in the movie mentions starting a Patrick O’Brian book club and the ladies ignore him. I have to say that a Patrick O’Brian book club is a great idea. I’m about to start reading the 7th book in the series and I can’t get enough. Every meeting would be like, “woah, that Jack Aubrey kicks ass…” We wouldn’t even have to be reading the same book, the conversation would still make sense. Who’s in?

it definitely feels like a tv movie. there is a scene that still bothers me though. the young beautiful lesbian character is rock climbing in a gym and falls. she falls because she forgot to have someone belay her. it’s not that hard to hurt yourself rock climbing, but climbing with a harness and rope without someone holding on to the other end of the rope is just ridiculous. it just makes it seem like the director isn’t trying very hard. but then i experienced a twofer. i walked by the tv later and i guess the beginning of ‘house’ was on. a woman was belaying her daughter who was climbing in a gym. but then the woman had some kind of nervous system disorder (i know because they showed all of her internal organs and flashing lights) and then she just let go of the rope while her daughter fell. i didn’t stick around to see how house solved the mystery but i noticed that she didn’t have the rope running through her harness while she was belaying. anyway, my point is, who writes this shit? and, how can i get in on it?
