August Rush is the story of an eleven-year-old boy who is raised by the state of NY searching for his parents, who do not even know he exists. It is pretty impressive for a woman to have a child and not know about it, but Keri Russell’s character does it. I think that the movie is not only about an eleven-year-old, but probably written by one too. Watching the movie is like listening to a little kid tell a story. “But then they are all in New York, but like he hears music so he knows his parents are musicians and he has never played music, but then he gets to go to Julliard and he is the best student in the school, but then he has to go because of this mean guy…” I like Robin Williams reprising his role as Peter Pan.

Roddy: Of course. That's the toad's plan.

That's why he needs the cable.

When everyone goes to the toilet the whole city will be flushed away.

I looked on imdb while I watched the movie and was sad to see that Mrs. Brisby (Elizabeth Hartman) killed herself a few years after the movie. I was also surprised to see that her children were played by Shannen Doherty and Wil Wheaton and some other kids. I read the imdb forums, but there was just a lot of talk about why Justin (a super intelligent rat) and Mrs. Brisby (an ordinary widowed talking mouse) didn’t hook up at the end. I wonder what these people think about when they read Animal Farm?

(Image from http://flickr.com/photos/bookowski/797779120/)

Rotten tomatoes rating: 100% (wow)

Update: Apparently there is a sequel, The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue starring Ralph Macchio. Apparently it wasn’t as critical acclaimed.
