The problem with Out of Time is who could ever believe that anyone could pull one over on Denzel? Even if Denzel is playing someone really un-Denzel-like. He’s still Denzel in the movie because there is a definite moment of Denzel involving a parrot.

For weeks now I have been wanting to watch The Hurricane and it was finally on tv.  Even better, it was on one of those channels like TBS so I got to watch it a few times.  I cried a little at the end.  I don’t know too much about the true story of Ruben Carter (I’ve done some research), but I like any movie with three Denzels.  For the record, there was no moment of Denzel in the movie.  There was, however, Clancy Brown.  You may remember him from such roles as prison guard in The Shawshank Redemption.  He sure makes a good prison guard, mean or nice.

I really like any movie that takes place in New York where it really looks and feels like New York. The characters talked like New Yorkers and the locations were real. Even Waris Ahluwalia was in the movie. He’s mister New York. Most importantly, the movie included Sandra Endo from NY1, New York’s only local news channel. I can’t wait to watch the movie again.

Almost any Denzel movie is great Sunday entertainment with the exception of Training Day. Denzel won an Oscar for Training Day even though it is far inferior to his body of work.   It was most likely a make up Oscar for The Hurricane. Anytime someone receives a make up award for their body of work the award givers are “pulling a Denzel”.

Anyway, back to the movie. One of the things that I love about Denzel is there is always a part of every movie he is in where he repeats something someone says and elaborates in a very menacing way. In Man on Fire, he says “You’re from Jersey. I’m from Jersey,” and the guy nearly faints. This is a skill I would love to have. I’m not sure what to call it since “pulling a Denzel” is already taken, but watch any of his movies… they all have it. Tom Cruise has a variation (let’s call it “the Tom Cruise variation”), but he will have to wait until I watch a Tom Cruise movie.

At the end of the movie, I could have sworn that the death music from Gladiator was playing. J and I put in the Gladiator dvd and switched back and forth. The best we could figure is that Man on Fire has some sort of remix of a portion of M’s death music.
