Sexy Beast

Thriller 2 Comments »

sexybeast.jpgI am watching Sexy Beast and at the risk of sounding like my parents, I can’t understand a word these guys are saying. I am getting the general story based on context clues, but the dialog is lost on me. I hear it is a really good movie. Maybe next time I will try to eliminate all background noise, like the air conditioner, so I can really concentrate.

The Last King of Scotland

Ding, Political, Thriller 2 Comments »

last-king.jpgI finally watched The Last King of Scotland. We went to go see it once and got stuck in traffic and abandoned ever seeing the movie. Luckily, Netflix came through for us. When I saw it, I thought, “Wow.  What a crazy story…” but then I looked it up and it ends up it is based on a novel. So… anyway… I loved Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin and I didn’t even mind that he delivered the ding.

Dr. Nicholas Garrigan, the horny doctor, was played by James McAvoy. Luckily he was good because it is going to take a lot from him for me to forgive that Becoming Jane trailer. I still can’t watch him in a movie without calling him Mr. Tumnus and asking about Lucy Pevensie once or twice.  Lucy was from Spare oom, by the way.

Infernal Affairs

Action, Thriller No Comments »

Let’s just get this straight, Infernal Affairs is a great movie.  In comparison, The Departed is a nonsensical and pointless movie with a few too many dings.  Okay, I’ll try not to dwell, but just go see Infernal Affairs.  Actually, I can’t even talk about without dwelling.  So… just see it.

The Presidio

Action, Thriller 2 Comments »

The PresidioI like watching The Presidio and seeing Mark Harmon shine. He hasn’t been in too many movies because he is mainly a tv guy, but I like seeing him in action. In movies like Freaky Friday and Chasing Liberty, he is just the good looking older guy. In The Presidio, Mark Harmon is the hero. He chases down a bad guy through Chinatown and kicks the ass of the guy who hits on his girl (Meg Ryan).

Mark Harmon co-stars in the movie with Sean Connery another good looking tough guy. In one scene, he beats up a man using only his thumb. Well at one point he trips the guy, but otherwise it is just the thumb. Sean Connery plays a lieutenant colonel in the military who is investigating a murder. He gets to appear in an array of military uniforms and always looks great. In fact, I turned to James during the movie and said, “Sean Connery looks so good in uniforms it makes me feel like there is a uniform out there perfect for me.” I’m thinking something with a jaunty hat and a wool skirt.

Dead Husbands

Comedy, Thriller No Comments »

John RitterDead Husbands is a made for tv movie starring John Ritter and Nicollette Sheridan.  The idea is that a group of women set up a chain letter where the woman whose name is at the top of the list gets to have her husband killed by the woman whose name is at the bottom of the list.  This way they can inherit their husbands money without anyone suspecting them of murder.  John Ritter plays the nicest guy in the world and Nicollette Sheridan the meanest gal.  There’s not too much remarkable about this movie except that I can’t believe I watched it.  I literally said, “I’m not going to watch that,” when I saw it was on next and then I happily worked on my sister’s quilt while it played.  I watched it last weekend, but I couldn’t update the blog until I read Harry Potter.
